Arabian Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The branch of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums in Taiz Governorate announced today the resumption of restoration and maintenance work at the historical Cairo Citadel in Taiz Governorate, coinciding with its inclusion in the preliminary list of world heritage sites at UNESCO. The project is being implemented with funding from the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), in cooperation with the U.S. Mission in Yemen, and in partnership with the Heritage for Peace organization. The current phase includes addressing the damage to the gate of the historical Cairo Fortress as a result of the conflict and the effects of climate and environmental changes, through a team of skilled craftsmen who have received specialized training from engineers in the branch of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums in Taiz, with the support of the Spanish organization (Heritage for Peace). The project extends over twenty months and is expected to contribute to providing direct job opportunities for dozens of families, in addition to its positive impact on the local community, ensuring the preservation of one of the most prominent historical landmarks in Yemen.
