Arabian Gulf – Special Coverage: The decision by the Israeli occupation government, approved by the Ministerial Committee on National Security Affairs, to reoccupy the city of Gaza and displace about a million of its residents to the south, has sparked a wave of Arab and international condemnations and warnings of a humanitarian catastrophe and serious violations of international law. The plan includes imposing a security cordon on the city and then storming its neighborhoods and refugee camps in the center of the Strip. The Arab League, the Arab Parliament, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, along with Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Turkey, and Iran, condemned the decision and described it as "ethnic cleansing" and a "dangerous escalation," while the United Nations affirmed that the plan violates the decisions of the International Court of Justice. In Europe, Germany suspended arms exports to Israel, Belgium summoned the Israeli ambassador, and France, Britain, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland rejected the plan. Australia, Italy, and New Zealand joined a joint Western statement describing it as a violation of international law. Canada, Russia, and China also condemned the plan and called for its immediate cessation. Diplomatically, several countries requested an emergency session of the Security Council to discuss the plan, with the support of all members except the United States, but the session was postponed to Sunday. The move comes a day after Netanyahu approved the plan, which human rights organizations described as a prelude to widespread forced displacement.
