Arab Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The Republic of Yemen welcomed the announcement by Canada, Australia, Portugal, and Malta of their intention to recognize the sisterly State of Palestine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement issued by it, valued this advanced international consensus as a historical milestone long awaited for decades, and an important step towards ending a conflict that has lasted for more than half a century, and opening real prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace in the region. The Republic of Yemen called on the rest of the countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take similar steps, embodying their commitment to the principles of international law, and in support of the established and historical rights of the brotherly Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The statement reiterated the Republic of Yemen's firm and supportive position on the Palestinian cause, stressing that recognition of the State of Palestine is not only a legal and historical entitlement, but also a sincere expression of commitment to justice and human rights, at a time when there is a growing need for responsible international positions that restore the principle of the two-state solution in line with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
