Yemen prepares to hold an international food security conference under Gulf sponsorship next October.

Arabian Sea – Yemen – Follow-ups: Prime Minister Dr. Salem Saleh bin Breik directed the ministries and relevant authorities to expedite the completion of technical and logistical preparations, and to prepare well the documents, reports, and projects to be presented during the International Food Security Conference in Yemen, scheduled to be held next October, under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council. During his chairmanship of the preparatory meeting for the conference, Bin Breik stressed the importance of this event as a pivotal platform to enhance long-term humanitarian and development partnership with supporting countries, stressing the need to clearly present the challenges facing the country, and propose realistic solutions to bridge the widening food security gap. The Prime Minister appreciated the Gulf support for holding and hosting the conference, and the interest of the Council countries in the food security file in Yemen, especially in light of the repercussions of the war ignited by the Houthi militias, and the resulting suffocating humanitarian and economic crises. He pointed out that the conference seeks to formulate a practical roadmap to address food security challenges through sustainable programs and development initiatives, based on supporting local production and improving supply and distribution chains, with a focus on the most affected groups. Bin Breik called on the relevant ministries to present a comprehensive and integrated vision in coordination with the concerned authorities, including mechanisms to enhance food security, a plan to increase investments in the agricultural and fisheries sectors, and develop relevant institutional capacities, in addition to encouraging the participation of the private sector, chambers of commerce, and businessmen in the conference. The leaders of the Ministries of Planning and International Cooperation, Agriculture and Irrigation, and Fisheries Wealth, along with the Yemeni Embassy in Riyadh, presented a comprehensive briefing on the ongoing arrangements and continuous coordination with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in addition to the most prominent topics proposed for discussion. The participating parties affirmed that the conference will represent a comprehensive coordination platform between the Yemeni government and its regional and international partners, aimed at moving from the stage of emergency interventions to adopting development projects that ensure the achievement of sustainable food security in the country.
