Arab Sea - Yemen - Follow-ups: The death of a Yemeni boy during a healing session at the hands of a self-proclaimed healer using "Sharia incantation" has sparked outrage on digital platforms, amid calls to prosecute those who practice witchcraft and charlatanism, in light of the lack of oversight of unlicensed clinics and centers. In detail, a 17-year-old Yemeni boy from Ibb Governorate in the center of the country went to a sheikh who practices healing sessions with "Sharia incantation," claiming that he would cure him of magic and exorcise the jinn from him. However, the boy died immediately after this session, while Yemeni media outlets said that the self-proclaimed healer was pressing on the neck of the victim and beating him severely, which led to his death as a result of suffocation, beating, and violent pressure on the neck. For its part, the police of Al-Zahhar Directorate, affiliated with the Ansar Allah group (Houthis) in Ibb Governorate, announced the arrest of the accused of killing the boy, and said - in a statement - that the perpetrator was practicing witchcraft and charlatanism. According to the statement, the perpetrator claimed his ability to treat mental illnesses, and placed his foot on the victim's neck with strong pressure, which caused his immediate death, noting that the accused was referred to justice. This incident has brought back to the forefront a series of deaths related to incantation and herbal medicine sessions that have spread in the governorate in recent years, and are described as "practices closer to torture than to treatment." It is noteworthy that what happened to the boy was not documented on video, but Yemenis circulated another shocking scene that they said was of the person accused of killing the boy, and he appeared placing his foot on the neck of a person under the pretext of treatment.
