Aden streets... a month of paving, and the next month, demolition: Who is responsible for the chaos of road destruction?
Arabian Sea - Exclusive
Special/Aden In recent years, the streets of Aden have become a living model of chaos and neglect. Hardly a month goes by without some vital streets being paved, only to be followed in the next month by demolition and re-excavation in the same locations, without any coordination between the concerned authorities, or consideration for the suffering of citizens, and the most basic standards of safety and infrastructure. The attached image from the heart of the temporary capital, Aden, illustrates a familiar scene: a busy street suffering from excavations and neglect, suffocating traffic jams, and an unhealthy environment filled with waste and debris resulting from random excavation work. This phenomenon has become part of the daily scene for the Adeni citizen, who is burdened by destroyed roads, open excavations, and projects that are not implemented according to a well-thought-out plan. The people of Aden are asking: Who is behind this chaos? Why is there no coordination between the parties implementing paving, water, sanitation, and communications projects? And why are millions spent on patchwork projects that are wasted in a matter of months due to the absence of planning and vision? Aden today is not only suffering from economic and living deterioration, but also from a drain on efforts and capabilities that are supposed to be in the service of improving services, not in circulating them between projects that start and do not complete, and streets that are paved to be broken after weeks, in a scene that raises questions and suspicion about the feasibility of these works and who benefits from the destruction of the streets more than their repair. It is an urgent appeal that we raise to the Governor of Aden, the Public Works Office, and all concerned parties, to play their supervisory role, hold accountable all those who tampered with Aden's infrastructure, and stop this ongoing farce in the name of projects, before the entire city turns into an open excavation site that is not suitable for life or movement.
