**Arabian Sea - Reuters:** Belgium intends to announce its official recognition of the State of Palestine today, Monday, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting, at a time when its foreign minister has threatened sanctions against Israel. With this step, Belgium joins a list that includes Canada, Portugal, Britain, France, Australia, and Spain, which have recognized or intend to recognize the State of Palestine. Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot announced on September 12 that his country would recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York, stressing that "there are severe sanctions on the Israeli government." He wrote in a post on the "X" platform: "In recent months, I have repeatedly affirmed Belgium's commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, based on a two-state solution." Prévot confirmed that step in his post, announcing Belgium's joining of 141 other countries in adopting the New York Declaration, led by France and Saudi Arabia, stressing that "this is not the end, but a milestone." He added: "On September 22, we will meet again in New York to reaffirm this momentum and work together for a future in which two peoples - Israeli and Palestinian - live side by side in peace and security."
