Arab Sea - Follow-ups: The United States announced that it has approved the sale of 3,350 long-range air-to-ground missiles and related equipment to Ukraine, in a deal worth a total of $825 million, at a time when US President Donald Trump's patience with Russia is running out. This announcement comes after the White House said that President Donald Trump was "not happy" with the Russian air strikes that targeted Kyiv on Wednesday-Thursday night and killed 19 people, but he was "not surprised by them." The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement that the deal "will enhance Ukraine's ability to meet current and future threats by providing it with additional means to perform self-defense and regional security missions." According to the agency, the deal aims to "improve the security of a partner country that is a driving force for political stability and economic progress in Europe." Before Trump returned to the White House in January, the United States was Ukraine's biggest supporter, but the Republican president broke with the support strategy pursued by his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden. Trump, who has long questioned the usefulness of aid to Kyiv, has pushed Kyiv's European allies to play a greater role in financing military aid to it. The US president recently announced an initiative stipulating that these European allies, along with Canada, buy US weapons for Ukraine's account. But the deal announced by Washington on Thursday does not fall within the framework of this initiative, but will be co-financed by Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway, in addition to the United States. This deal still needs to be passed in the US Congress, which is considered in principle a mere formality. Source: SWI
